CTV Series Flashpoint Picked Up by CBS for U.S. Broadcast

Los Angeles, CA (January 29, 2008) - A new CTV original Canadian drama series currently in pre-production has been picked up by CBS for broadcast later this year in the United States. Flashpoint (working title, a.k.a. Sniper) is a new police drama about an elite, big city Strategic Response Unit (SRU). CBS has picked up 13 episodes of the one-hour drama series, which was green-lit by CTV in December. When it premieres later this year, Flashpoint will become the first Canadian series since CTV's Due South in 1994 to air in network primetime in both Canada and the United States. Production begins in Toronto in April.

On a competitive Tuesday night, 2.422 million viewers watched on CTV as Helio Castroneves was revealed as the ultimate dance champion over second place finisher Mel B and third place competitor Marie Osmond. CTV's CSI Outlasts Survivor Simulcast in Key Demos

Last night, Sara and Grissom may have had their goodbye kiss, but viewers stuck around: an out-of-simulcast episode of CSI on CTV not only delivered 2.6 million viewers, besting a Survivor simulcast (2.27 million) on Global/CBS head-to-head at 8 p.m. by 11% in total viewers, but also swept aside the competition in key demos as well. CSI delivered 15% more viewers than Survivor in the desirable A18-34 demo and also was up 5% over Survivor among A18-49 and A25-54.

CTV's Corner Gas continued to distance itself from the competition Monday night as it attracted more viewers than a simulcast of Heroes for the fourth week in a row, preliminary data from BBM Nielsen Media Research confirms today. Corner Gas delivered 1.29 million viewers at 9:30 p.m., up 19% head-to-head against the second half-hour of Heroes (NBC/Global, 1.08 million viewers). Perennial Top 10 series The Amazing Race returned for its 12th season on CTV at 8 p.m. last night and eliminated its competition with 2.14 million viewers for its season premiere, data from BBM Nielsen Research confirms today. The series was the most-watched program of the night among total viewers and also among A18-49 (1.2 million) and A25-54 (1.28 million, up 5% compared to Fall 2006).
